Terms of use
These terms explain how to use Her Steps, share progress with friends, and manage a subscription.
Effective 19 September 2026
About these terms
These terms govern your use of the Her Steps walking and fitness service provided by Frederick James (“we”, “us”). Our Privacy Policy explains how personal information is processed; agreeing to these terms does not replace any separate privacy consent that is required.
Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies where no applicable custom EULA is provided through the App Store.
Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 and legally able to agree to these terms. If you are below the age of legal majority where you live, you must have a parent or guardian’s approval to use the service. Use Sign in with Apple to create and access your account, provide accurate information, and keep your Apple account and device secure. Do not impersonate another person or use an account you are not authorised to access.
The fitness service
Her Steps helps you count steps, view walking distance and active energy, set a daily step goal, review history and share progress with friends. Features depend on your device, permissions, connectivity and any subscription required for access. Fitness readings and goals are synced to our backend as explained in the Privacy Policy.
Not medical advice
Her Steps is a fitness and motivation tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Step counts, distance, energy estimates and progress can be incomplete or inaccurate. We do not promise a particular health, fitness or weight outcome.
Choose activity and goals appropriate to your circumstances. If you have health concerns, seek advice from a qualified professional. Stop if activity causes pain or you feel unwell, and do not disregard professional advice because of information in the app.
Your content and sharing
You retain ownership of profile photos and other content you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, process and display that content only as needed to provide the features you use, deliver your chosen sharing and protect the service. This is not permission to use your health information or photo in advertising.
You must have the rights and permissions needed to upload content. Do not upload someone else’s private information or image without the necessary permission. Your profile can be found by exact username before a friendship is accepted; accepted friends can also see fitness progress. See the Privacy Policy for the information made available.
You can remove friends, block or report users. Removing a connection or deleting content cannot recall copies another person has already saved. The content licence ends when the content is removed from our systems, except for any limited retention required by law.
Community rules
You must not:
- Harass, threaten, exploit, impersonate or harm another person.
- Upload unlawful, sexually exploitative, hateful, threatening or rights-infringing material.
- Share private information without permission, send spam or use the service for fraud.
- Access another account without permission, bypass security, disrupt the service or extract other users’ information without authorisation.
- Copy or reverse engineer the service except where applicable law permits it.
Use the in-app report or block options, or contact support, to raise a concern. We may investigate reports, remove content or restrict access when reasonably necessary to address a breach or protect users. We do not guarantee that every upload is reviewed before it appears. Contact us if you believe a moderation decision was mistaken.
Subscriptions and trials
Paid features may require an auto-renewing App Store subscription. The purchase screen and Apple confirmation show the price, billing period, included features and any trial or introductory offer. Apple charges the Apple Account used for the purchase; Her Steps does not receive your card details.
Free trials and introductory offers are available only to eligible users under the offer’s terms and Apple’s eligibility rules. A previous trial or subscription may affect eligibility. A trial is not guaranteed to every user.
Unless cancelled in time, a trial converts to the paid subscription shown at purchase and the subscription renews automatically. Apple may charge for renewal during the 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal or the end of a free or discounted trial if you do not want the next charge. Price changes and any required notices or consent are handled under Apple’s rules and applicable law.
Cancellation and restoration
Manage or cancel through iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Her Steps, or follow Apple’s cancellation instructions. Cancellation generally stops the next renewal and paid access continues until the current period ends, as shown by Apple. Trial access may end sooner under the offer’s terms.
Deleting the app or your Her Steps account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel with Apple separately, including if you intend to delete your account.
Use Restore Purchases in the app to restore an eligible existing purchase. Sign in to the Apple Account used to buy it and your Her Steps account. Restoration does not create a new purchase and cannot restore an expired entitlement. If access does not return, contact support; see also Apple’s restoration guidance.
Refunds and consumer rights
For App Store purchases, request a refund through Apple’s Report a Problem service. Eligibility depends on the purchase, country or region and applicable law; Apple reviews requests under its policies. See Apple’s refund guidance. Nothing in these terms removes mandatory consumer rights, including any statutory refund, withdrawal or remedy rights that apply to you.
Deleting or closing an account
You can stop using the service and request account deletion from your profile settings. A successful deletion removes first-party account records and stored images as described in the Privacy Policy. It does not erase Apple Health records, cancel billing or automatically delete records held by RevenueCat, PostHog or Singular. Contact us for help with additional privacy requests.
We may suspend or terminate access for a material or repeated breach of these terms, or where reasonably necessary to address a legal or security risk. Where reasonable, we will explain the reason and give an opportunity to respond. You can contact us to dispute a decision. Any action remains subject to your mandatory rights and does not itself cancel an Apple subscription.
Our service and intellectual property
Her Steps software, branding, design and content supplied by us belong to us or our licensors. You receive the limited right to use the service under the applicable licence and these terms; ownership is not transferred.
We may make updates, carry out maintenance or change features. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. If a material change or discontinuation affects a paid service, we will provide notice and any remedy required by applicable law. This does not give us an unrestricted right to remove paid benefits without regard to your consumer rights.
Responsibility and liability
You remain responsible for using the app safely and for content you submit. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable or that result from misuse of the service.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing limits mandatory rights relating to digital content or services, reasonable care and skill, or other consumer protections.
Changes and disputes
We may revise these terms to reflect changes in the service or applicable requirements. We will publish an effective date, provide appropriate notice of material changes and obtain agreement where required. Changes will not remove rights that have already arisen.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction over disputes relating to these terms. This does not affect mandatory consumer protections or any right you have to bring proceedings in the courts where you live.
